JUNIOR AWARDS PROGRAM
For the last 20 years, our club has recognized outstanding, well-rounded students in Saginaw County by honoring one deserving junior from each Saginaw County high school during our annual Junior Awards Program. Students are nominated by their school counselor or principal, based on three qualifications: scholarship, leadership, and service. The program, now held every March, includes dinner and a guest speaker from the university’s Office of Admissions. This flagship event is well attended by school counselors and principals, students and their families, club members, and other special guests.
CRYING TOWEL PARTY
Another cornerstone event for our club has been the Crying Towel Party. Held the evening before the annual Michigan State vs. University of Michigan football game, fans, and alumni from both schools join together at the Crying Towel Party to have some fun and celebrate their teams. The “Crying Towel” hangs from the ceiling, embroidered with the losing team’s name and year of the loss. This rivalry event typically offers free pizza, drink specials and an assortment of prizes, including a raffle for tickets to the big game.
SAGINAW SPARTANS SCHOLARSHIP GOLF SCRAMBLE
The Saginaw Spartans Scholarship Golf Scramble is our largest fundraiser of the year. The majority of proceeds from the outing fund our scholarship endowment fund. The golf outing takes place each July and is a fun way to interact with other Spartans for a great cause. This year's Golf Scramble is on July 26, 2019 at Swan Valley Golf Course. REGISTER NOW.
GLOBAL DAY OF SERVICE
Each April we join forces with other Spartans around the globe to give back to our local community through the MSU Global Day of Service. In recent years, our club and volunteers have partnered together to serve a Spartan-themed meal at the East Side Soup Kitchen and have cleaned up trash along a stretch of I-75 in Saginaw County.
